Shed 2×6 plans

I have shed plans that call for 2×4’s on 16″, but I want to use 2×6’s for at minimum R19 insulation. How do I modify the plans to accommodate this?

2×6 wall studs

Hi, the biggest change you would need to make would be the end wall lengths. Since a 2×6 is 5.5″ and a 2×4 is 3.5″, you will need to adjust the length of each end wall by 4″. Or 2″ off each end.

The other change you would have would be the area above the door and/or windows where the header is located. Since the header is only 3.5″ thick, this will leave a void on the back side of the header to the face of the 2×6 wall stud. This could be filled in with another 2×6 (or whatever the height of the header 2x is)to fill up the void.
